Suspension of all terms of administrative procedures and extension of the validity of expiring documents

Following the provisions taken by the Italian Government regarding the fight against and containment of the COVID-19 Virus, the Italian Patent and Trademark Office (UIBM) is working to reorganize its services in the best possible way, in order to reconcile the needs of citizens and IP users, operating exclusively via online services.

Please note that:

  • all terms, including those peremptory, relating to administrative proceedings, on the request of a party or office, pending on the date of 23rd February 2020 or initiated after that date are suspended for the period between 23rd February 2020 and 15th May 2020;
  • certificates, authorizations and permits however denominated, including those relating to the industrial property titles, expiring between 31 January 2020 and 31 July 2020, retain their validity for the ninety days following the declaration of the end of the state of Emergency;
  • industrial property rights expiration of the same period, it is the responsibility of the interested party, who intends to extend the duration of an industrial property right, to take due action, in the forms already provided for by the law, in order to achieve its maintenance or renewal, with payments in the forms already provided for by the law;
  • terms relating to appeals before the Board of Appeal are excluded from the above mentioned suspension as they relate to judicial proceedings and not to administrative ones.

All the events/meetings are suspended until further notice.
